Burien Mural

I was recently invited to paint a 15x7' mural in Burien, WA, a small community near Seattle, WA.
I had 2 days to complete the mural during their annual strawberry festival. The mural was painted on 4 wooden panels attached to a double car garage door. The garage was part of the Burien Art Gallery, a little building in a beautiful wooded park. I enjoyed painting under the tall pine trees. Some folks from the Moshier Art Center were set up next to me throwing pottery. Behind the garage a stage was set up and I got to listen to live music all day. My favorites were a traditional West African music and dance group Sohoyini(www.sohoyini.com) and a Western Swing band The Jangles (www.janglesband.com). I had a great time spending two days in such a lovely setting and getting to talk to the friendly people from the community. The best part about painting in public is getting to talk to people all day. I love the way art brings people together!
I have more pics of the completed mural stuck on my cell phone, because of course I got half way to Burien and realized I forgot to pack the camera....so as soon as I figure out how to get the images off my cell phone I will upload them!

Today's Wall

Hello. Here are 2 photo's for your enjoyment. The shots are of the wall in my studio. The paintings hanging on the wall are in varios stages of completion. They are all new pieces I have been working on for a show at the Guardion Gallery in June. I love working on all the pieces at one time. Having them all hanging together helps me see how they relate to each other. I love getting to spend time looking at the complex underpainting and know that it will one day be covered up.
Here is a glimps into my studio today

Spring is busy..

Hello blog readers!
This spring has been very busy for me. I have b
een working on the application process for Portland Open Studios. It is a local self guided tour of 100 artist studios in the Portland Area. You can visit www.portlandopenstudios.com soon to see the 2009 artist.

I am working hard to create a new body of work for a show I am having in June at the Guardino Gallery (www.guardinogallery.com) and for a show I will be in at the Museum of North West Artist
(www.museumofnwart.org).
This will be my first museum show so I am really nervous.

I had the fun oppertunity to participate in a local fundraising event at a great independant art store here in portland. Peter, of Muse Art+ Design (www.museartanddesign.com) has put together An Artist A Day. Each day, every day in April, a new artist comes a
nd paints in the store. All paintings are for sale and the proceeds go to purchase art supplies for Portland classrooms. You can check out pics of the artists who have painted so far at: www.museartanddesign.com.
I had a great time chatting with Peter and all the artist coming in that day to purchase art supplies. I really think Portland has the friendliest artist.
Well I will leave you with pics of two new paintings. Enjoy!
